Web Hosting Talk spammers

Web Hosting Talk provided my email address to HotScripts so they could send me their spam-like newsletter. The newsletter claims

“You are receiving this email because you signed up at HotScripts.com”

and also

“You have received this e-mail as you are a registered member of HotScripts.”

Both are false statements although they are both run by iNET Interactive.

It’s interesting they decided to do this months after I signed up for Web Hosting Talk without mentioning it in the email.

I am responsible for most of the newsletters being sent out by iNET. I can guarantee you that we do cross populate our lists without an explicit opt-in from the user. We do use the same software to send out WHT and HS newsletters out, so mistakes can and will eventually happen. I have reviewed the settings for the latest HS newsletter and it is set to pull off of the HS member base. I am certainly not saying you did not receive the HS newsletter to your WHT address; there must be a bug some where that caused this. If you wouldn’t mind contacting me with your email address I would love to look into this issue for you.

We take our responsibility to you, as a user, very seriously to keep your email address secure and spam free. I am very sorry that you received this message in error and I will personally see to it that we reach a resolution.

Thank you for your response however I cannot give out my email address in relation to this problem as it would hinder future reports of unsolicited mail if my addresses or identity were known by companies who commit these actions.

Hopefully you will be able to investigate the problem without my help. If it wasn’t an isolated incident then there will surely be other complaints.

“I can guarantee you that we do cross populate our lists without an explicit opt-in from the user.”
If this is an accurate statement it explains everything.

Excuse my typo, I meant to say, we DO NOT cross populate our lists without an explicit opt-in from the user.
